First Lady Makes a Plea to Promote Compassion to Children

First Lady Melania Trump hosted the governors’ spouses for a luncheon at the White House on Feb. 26. Her remarks centered mainly on children and she opened by reflecting on the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, on Feb. 14. “As a parent, I cannot imagine the kind of grief and tragedy like that brings,” she said. Mrs. Trump also used the opportunity to address the opioid crisis, which has been a priority issue for her over the past year. She has made multiple visits to facilities that treat babies who are born addicted to opioids. Her remarks concluded with a plea to the spouses to promote and fight for the well-being of children. Lady Bird Johnson's china was used for the luncheon.
