Melania Trump Looking for Volunteers to Decorate the White House for Christmas

2018-08-12 23:33
Early preparations are needed when you are the first lady of the United States opening up your home to more than 25,000 visitors over the Christmas season. Naturally, the First Lady Melania Trump might want some help. The White House announced in a statement on Aug. 3 that the First Lady and President Donald J. Trump are again opening up the People’s House to the public for traditional Christmas decorating. People who are interested in assisting the First lady are asked to fill out a form and will be notified on Oct. 1 as to whether they are successful. For those who are musically talented, the White House is giving them an opportunity to perform during Holiday Open Houses throughout the month of December. They are encouraging high school bands, choirs, and Christmas-themed entertainers to apply. This is not the first time the White House recruited volunteers to help with the Christmas decorations. Last year 150 volunteers took more than 1,600 hours over the Thanksgiving weekend to decorate the president's residence, according to AP. The White House said the First Lady selected every detail of the decor, which includes 71 wreaths, 53 Christmas trees, more than 18,000 lights, more than 12,000 ornaments, more than 3,100 yards of ribbon and more than 1,000 feet of garland. The White House bakers also prepared a total of 31,000 cookies, including 15,000 sugar cookies. Last year's decorations also included an 18-foot fir tree and a 350-pound gingerbread replica of the White House.
