A joint initiative of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Tourism, and Tourism Promotions Board, Winter Escapade has brought hundreds of Filipino and Canadian tourists to extraordinary destinations throughout the Philippines for fun and relaxation at the height of Canadian winter. Past Winter Escapade tours have gone to Boracay, Guimaras, Iloilo, Cebu, Dumaguete, Bicol, Laoag, Vigan, Puerto Princesa, and Coron. In 2018, Winter Escapade 5 will explore the natural, cultural, and culinary riches of the City of Smiles, Bacolod City in Negros Occidental, the island once known as the world’s sugar bowl. Participants will have the chance to soak in the hot and cold springs at the foot of Mt. Kanlaon, take their fill of fresh seafood, chicken inasal, piyaya, and silky-smooth mangoes, roam through the island’s heritage homes, and swim in the pristine waters of Lakawon Island. From Negros Occidental, the group will proceed to Davao City, the durian capital of the Philippines, where they will experience plantation life at the Philippines’ oldest banana plantation and immerse themselves in Davao’s unique flora and fauna which includes the Queen of Philippine flowers, the waling-waling orchid, and the largest eagle in the world, the Philippine eagle. Participants may also enjoy to their hearts’ content fruits rarely seen in North America and which Davao is famous for, such as durian, pomelo, and mangosteen.
