These two breed come from two disparate places and may initially seem to have very little in common but the fact is that these breeds have many similarities and are capable of performing many of the same task. The Rottweiler is thought to be one of the oldest dog breeds. Its origin date back to Roman times. These dogs were kept as herder or driving dogs. They marched over the Alps with the Roman legions, protecting the humans and driving their cattle. In the region of Rottweil, these dogs met and mixed with the native dogs in a natural crossing and became the modern Rotweiler. Kangal dogs are named for the Kangal District of Sivas Province in Central Turkey where it likely originated. The breed was primarily used as a livestock guardian. Traveling and protecting the shepherd and their herds. The relative isolation of the Sivas-Kangal region has kept the Kangal Dog free of cross-breeding and has resulted in a natural breed of remarkable uniformity in appearance, disposition, and behavior.
