Oyster Gardens Restore Reefs, Protect Coast

Oyster reefs are a cornerstone of coastal ecosystems. Not only can each oyster filter some 25 to 50 gallons of water a day, the reefs they form provide habitat for hundreds of species. As oyster numbers plummet, volunteers are now raising oysters along the U.S. coasts to help restore depleted reefs.
