Measles case confirmed in Portland, about 500 people possibly exposed

Around 500 people were exposed to measles in the Portland area in late June. Testing confirmed a case of the measles in the city on Wednesday. Most of the people aren't believed to be in danger of contracting the illness. But 40 people who are considered nonimmune are being monitored. [Dr. Jennifer Vines, Multnomah County Deputy Health Officer] “Measles is a serious disease that was basically eliminated in the United States … When we see measles today, it is rare.” Symptoms start with a high fever, then white spots in the mouth and a rash.
