Japan Develops New EV Motor, Aims to Cut Rare-Earth Dependence on China

Japanese metals maker Proterial has developed a prototype motor for electric vehicles. According to Nikkei Asia, the new magnet consists mainly of the rare earth metal ferrite. The company said tests have proved the new motor is capable of delivering the output needed for electric vehicles. The ferrite magnet will replace widely used magnets containing a rare-earth metal found mainly in China.
