Jeep's new Wrangler 4xe isn't the first Jeep with a plug, but it is the first PHEV Jeep is selling in the United States and the first one with off roading in mind. Jeep's mission with the Wrangler 4xe was to make a Jeep that's just as capable as any other Sahara or Rubicon that happens to have an EV mode. To do that they teamed up with ZF to create a new 8-speed automatic with a 181 horsepower electric motor, then they bolted a 17.3 kWh battery to the frame, tossed a 7.2 kW charger on board and called it a day. The combination is good for 375 horsepower, a whopping 470 lb-ft of torque, and a somewhat less than exciting 22 miles of range. How does it all come together? Let's find out together!
