FCC's Carr Criticizes Apple Over Censorship

A Federal Communications Commission (FCC) commissioner is calling out Apple for censoring content in China.
The FCC’s senior Republican, Brendan Carr, is especially concerned about Apple blocking the Voice of America (VOA) app in China, calling it “deeply troubling” in a recent letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook. He says it's hypocritical that Cook gave a speech in Washington recently lauding free speech while at the same time helping the Chinese Communist Party censor things in China.
According to Carr, Apple did the bidding of communist China by removing the VOA app in China.
The app is funded by Congress. VOA's website says it exemplifies the principles of a free press and seeks to tell the truth.
The Chinese regime, in contrast, blocks many foreign social media and news websites.
Carr said China isn't becoming more open because Apple is doing business there. He ended his letter by asking Cook whether Apple will restore access to the VOA app in China. He wants an answer by Friday.
NTD reached out to Apple for comment, but hasn't heard back yet.
NTD spoke to Carr to learn more.
