NTD Evening News (April 28): GOP Subpoenas CDC Director Over Censorship Concerns; Florida Resign-to-Run Law Change Heads to DeSantis’s Desk

The U.S. House of Representatives has subpoenaed several top Biden administration officials, including the director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over the administration’s coordination with Big Tech to censor users. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, sent the subpoenas on April 28 to CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Director Jen Easterly, and James Rubin, an official at the State Department’s Global Engagement Center (GEC). Over 100 Harvard professors joined to form a new council dedicated to free speech rights. The council is pushing back on what some call a crisis, involving disciplinary actions and punishment against targeted speech. Florida lawmakers gave final passage to a measure that clears a path for Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis to run for president without resigning from his current job. The provision, which was anticipated, would tweak a Florida law—known as "resign to run"—that currently requires candidates in the state seeking higher office to give up their elected post once they qualify for the ballot. The legislation approved Friday exempts "any person seeking the office of President or Vice President of the United States" from the resign-to-run law. Russia hurled missiles at cities across Ukraine as people slept on Friday, killing at least 25 civilians in the first large-scale air strikes in nearly two months.
