Giant machine creatures delight spectators as they roam central Toulouse

2018-11-03 21:39
This is not part of a film trailer this was a real scene in central Toulouse. French street theatre group "La Machine" introduced its latest feat. The behemoths are Ariane the spider and Asterion the Minotaur. They took two years to build. [Niles, Spectator] “I'm surprised, and I was surprised, I didn't think they would be so big. There were bigger than 14 meters (46 feet), so that's not nothing." The machines are controlled by dozens of operators who meticulously move every part of its body. [Emily Battersby, Operator, La Machine] "It's the eyes that accentuate the emotions and feelings of animals. So if the eyes, or even the others parts of the minotaur, remain static, it doesn't work." The theatre group’s show, “Guardian of the Temple,” runs until Nov. 4. The group's Halle de la Machine workshop exhibits the mechanical creations.
