NY Governor Announces $18.5 Million in Funds to Fight MS-13 Gang Activity in Long Island

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that he added an addition $18.5 million to the city's 2019 fiscal budget in order to cut off MS-13 recruitment and other gang-related activities on Long Island. The funding will include $16 million to be used for expanding comprehensive after-school youth programs, case management programs, and job opportunities to help at-risk youth avoid being pulled into a life of crime. $2.5 million in funding will also support the Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative; which help provides law enforcement agencies and community organizations with the resources to help stop gun and gang-related activities on Long Island. "New York will not tolerate the monstrous acts and fear that MS-13 has brought to our communities, and by focusing on educating and protecting our young residents, we are furthering our efforts to drive out these violent criminals," NY Gov. Cuomo said at Wednesday's announcement.
