The current foreign policy of the United States puts it in a position of strength at the world’s negotiating table. Things that seemed impossible a few years ago have now happened. The shift began with the election of the current president. The United States is now a country that positions itself in the best interests of its citizens. Treaties and trade deals that hurt the country have been canceled, renegotiated, or nullified. American citizens have a new sense of optimism. === American Christian pastor Andrew Brunson was arrested in Turkey in 2016, and charged with unsubstantiated terrorism offenses. Turkish courts tried to imprison him for 35 years. After President Trump was elected, he put economic pressure on Turkey. His efforts helped drive down the value of Turkish currency. Brunson was finally released in October 2018, and brought to the Oval Office. The regime always acted in defiance of agreements to curb its development of weapons of mass destruction. In May, President Trump managed to get the last three Americans out of prison in North Korea. Their fate was otherwise unpredictable and unknown. The president also managed to bring back the remains of American military personnel who never came home after the Korean War. It’s been over 60 years since the war ended. The move was unprecedented, and something no previous administration had been able to accomplish. Surviving family members can now put the bodies of their relatives to rest back at home.
