Man sets Northeast Fresno home on fire after using blowtorch to kill spiders

Maggie Ren
A Fresno man set fire to a home on Oct. 23 after using a blowtorch to kill spiders. The man was house-sitting for his parents when he found black widow spiders. He escaped the fire unharmed. The official cause of the fire wasn’t announced, but authorities believe it was the blowtorch. This is the second reported spider-related house fire in the state of California this year. At least four cases of spider-related house fires have occurred in the US since 2014. Tens of thousands of dollars in damages have been caused by these fires.
