Video Shows Deadly Utah Courtroom Shooting

Seamus Light
Dramatic video released Monday shows a defendant inside a Utah federal courthouse gunned down by a U.S. marshal after rushing the witness stand, brandishing a pen. Sale Angilau, a member of the Tongan Crip gang, is seen rising from his seat before grabbing his lawyer’s pen and attempting to stab a shackled witness. Angilau’s family filed a wrongful death suit. Their attorney, Bob Sykes, claimed the marshal panicked, and should not have used deadly force. U.S. District Judge John Dowdell dismissed the Angilau family’s wrongful death suit Friday, citing the video as proof that the U.S. marshal acted reasonably.
