Barrett SCOTUS Confirmation Hearing

Kuting Feng
Today Oct 12th, is the first day of a four-day senate confirmation hearing for Supreme Court Justice Nominee, Amy Coney Barrett. The five-hour-long event saw prepared speeches from 22 senators as well as an opening statement from Barrett, herself. The Senate Judiciary Committee kicked off the first day of the four-day confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Nominee, Amy Coney Barrett. 22 senators each gave 10-minute long remarks before Judge Barrett was introduced, sworn in, and gave a statement of her own. Many Democratic senators emphasized their concern with what Barrett's confirmation would mean for the Affordable Care Act. They said that should Barrett be confirmed to the Supreme Court, Americans would lose their healthcare through Obamacare. On November 10, oral arguments for a case concerning the Affordable Care Act will be brought to the Supreme Court. Democrats also claimed the entire confirmation process was rushed, illegitimate, and should not proceed, as the hearings started 22 days before the election.
