2018-08-21 22:16
A man who tried to attack officers near Barcelona with a knife was shot dead. It was treated as a terrorist act. Ed: 1162 - 2. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) REGIONAL INVESTIGATIVE POLICE CHIEF RAFEL COMAS, SAYING: "We are treating it as a terrorist attack because the information tells us there is an attack and there is clear aggression against a police agent inside a police building, second because the individual made references to Allah, although the rest of his words were unintelligible, and it is also important to remember that we are at a level 4 anti-terrorist security alert, out of 5, and we think this is enough to treat this as a terrorist attack at this time." [b-roll --- there is no image of him available] Spanish media reports identify the man as Abdelouahab Taib, 29, from Algeria. The interior minister said it was an “isolated event that targeted the police.” His ex-wife said he was gay and suicidal, Spanish media reported. He reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” and other phrases before lunging at a police officer.
