Oak Tree Grown From An Acorn
Next Door
0 Followed
It's actually pretty easy to grow an Oak Tree from an acorn... I've always wanted to give it a go and in this video I'll show you how my little Oak Tree from acorn project has done after the first year!
Last year, I took several acorns from a few different trees, just as they were ready to fall off. I made sure none were cracked or broken and I soaked them overnight to see which ones were viable - if they float, they are not viable.
I then planted the 6 viable acorns in about 2 inches of soil and waited... After several months, nothing happened. When I went to reuse the potting soil in early February, I noticed that one had sprouted.
I repotted it and cared for it over the last 9 months and it seems to be doing fairly well!
I also like to scour my yard for young tree seedlings that may have found their way there... In doing so, I noticed that I had a 6" tall seedling (species was unknown at the time), but after it got it's first and second set of true leaves I was able to identify it as a Cottonwood Tree. It's amazing how fast the Cottonwood Trees grow as the one in this video is roughly the same age as the Oak Tree!
I hope that you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching!
