Two dead and dozens injured after trains crash head-on in South Africa
Two trains collide in the South African capital Pretoria, injuring dozens and killing at least three people according to initial reports. Sisipho Skweyiya reports. This was the extent of the damage after two trains collided in the South African capital Pretoria on Tuesday (January 8). A number of people died and around 300 were injured - 82 of them seriously. The emergency services say the actual death toll could rise, as they search under the wreckage. The crash happened at 9:30am at Mountain View train station where a packed passenger train careered into a stationary train. An investigation into the official cause is ongoing. It's the latest in a series of train accidents in South Africa. In October 320 people were injured in a similar incident when a stationary train was hit by a packed one traveling from Johannesburg to Pretoria.
