Adorable Otter Pups Born at Santa Barbara Zoo

Chris Jasurek
California’s Santa Barbara Zoo has three new attractions entertaining the public. Born on October 7, 2017, these three adorable Asian small-claw otter pups are swimming, grooming, and learning to do all that otter stuff from their parents, Peeta and Gail. The pups, two females and a male, were kept in a safe enclosure for two –and-a-half months while their eyes, opened, they grew teeth, and grew big enough to move into the zoo’s otter exhibit. They went public on December 21, taking their first swimming lessons from their doting parents. These otters are native to the coast of Southeast Asia, but pollution, hunting, and habitat destruction has them endangered. This family is perfectly safe in its home in California, at least.
