Biden Admin Extends Protection From Deportation for Over 260,000 Haitians

NTD News
The Biden administration on Monday said it’s extending immigration protections for over 260,000 Haitians in the United States. Protections include deferred deportation and being able to work in the United States for an extra 18 months, until August 2024. It’s part of something called Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Congress created TPS in 1990 to provide temporary protections for immigrants from certain countries if it’s deemed unsafe for them to return home. The Biden administration says it’s still unsafe for Haitians to return because of socioeconomic challenges, political instability, gang violence, and the recent catastrophic earthquakes.
