UK Lawmaker Calls for Sanctions on China

A UK lawmaker says it's time for Magnitsky style sanctions on China. In an article in the Telegraph, conservative partys’ Ian Duncan smith references a recent study. The report details the scale and nature of state-sponsored human rights abuses in China with a focus on Tibetans. Smith goes on that all religious minorities are targeted by the Chinese communist party or CCP. He mentions the spiritual group falun gong, saying they promote the “virtues of truth and forbearance”. Practitioners sent for “re-education through labor” to renounce their faith, suffer torture he describes as “horrific”. He states, “western governments cannot continue to ignore these abuses...We are calling on the UK and other governments to impose Magnitsky-style sanctions”.
