What happened with SB227?
For some strange reason, the legislation died in Appropriations Subcommittee (it was never actually up for a vote as it had not yet reached Congress). Next steps for legislative action are not yet clear.
I don't have a lot of answers at this point, but for questions, or more information, reach out to Senator Brian Jones (CA R-38) either at his website or on social media. His office is pretty good about getting back to people.

Did the industry push back?
YES, there was plenty of industry pushback on the original proposal to "Sundown the California Red Sticker Program!!" At the Air Resources Board public meetings, comment periods and workshops (back in 2017-2018), the industry turnout was strong--all manufacturers had a presence, as well as aftermarket exhaust companies, racing organizations, advocacy groups, etc. See links below for reports from these workshops, the research as presented by CARB and some of the conversations (arguments) that went on between industry leaders and the California Air Resources Board.
