Migrant caravan_Heading for Tijuana, California on US border
President Donald Trump has ordered almost five thousand six hundred troops to the southern border. This is in response to the caravan of migrants that left Mexico City on November nine heading for the U.S. The majority of migrants in the main caravan, which consists of some six thousand people, are believed to be heading for California. President Trump inched closer to eliminating a loophole in immigration laws, when he issued a proclamation on November 9. He said, “Illegal aliens will no longer get a free pass into our country by lodging meritless claims in seeking asylum.” “They are traveling in large, organized groups through Mexico and reportedly intend to enter the United States unlawfully or without proper documentation and to seek asylum, despite the fact that, based on past experience, a significant majority will not be eligible for or be granted that benefit.” The President has also made it clear on twitter, exactly where he thinks the blame for the whole southern migrant problem lies. He said, “Every time you see a Caravan, or people illegally coming, or attempting to come, into our Country illegally, think of and blame the Democrats for not giving us the votes to change our pathetic Immigration Laws! Remember the Midterms! So unfair to those who come in legally.” The troops stationed at the border are unable to apprehend migrants without documents---the point is to discourage them from crossing using military presence. Meanwhile the Department of Homeland Security hopes to funnel the majority of illegal border crossers to legitimate ports of entry. While many migrants are seeking a better life in the U.S., there are others who seek to harm U.S. citizens, and are piggybacking their way into the country.
