Canada’s Former Attorney General, Irwin Cotler, Suggests Holding the CCP Accountable for Crimes Against Humanity

The Epoch Times
The Epoch Times
Irwin Cotler, former Canadian Minister of Justice and a leading international champion of human rights, said the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) should be held responsible for the global pandemic caused by the CCP virus (formerly known as COVID-19). The Sergei Magnitsky Law allows Canada to freeze assets and place travel bans on human rights violators from around the world. Dr. Ai Fen had alerted her colleagues at Wuhan Central Hospital that a SARS-like virus had reappeared among her patients. Eight doctors then shared the information with their networks on social media, but were soon summoned, reprimanded, and silenced by local police. Among them, Dr. Li Wenliang was forced to sign a letter saying he had spread “fake speech” and “disturbed social order.” A study published on January 24 in the medical journal, The Lancet, showed that on December 1, a patient had become ill with the CCP virus. Chinese authorities finally admitted on January 20, that the CCP virus is transmissible from person to person. This was more than six weeks after the first case was identified. The suppression of whistleblowers revealing the truth has never stopped. More recently, Dr. Ai Fen has been unreachable since March 29, and the Chinese authorities continue to cover up the real scale of the outbreak. Mr. Cotler cited a British study by the University of Southampton which suggested that 95% of infections could have been avoided if China had acted three weeks earlier in December. “China is simply not ever held accountable,” Mr. Cotler said, “The UN system, which should be part of those exposing this culture of corruption and holding them accountable, has actually been indulging China and even rewarding it. China sits on the UN Human Rights Council, which is not supposed to be a place for human rights violators.” “I think the global pandemic might become a wake-up call for the international community, that the Chinese leadership may no longer be given a free pass,” he stated. “This culture of criminality and corruption can no longer be ignored, let alone indulged. The impunity must end. Accountability for human rights violators will have to emerge.”
