According to the Department of Labor’s semi-annual report, taxpayers lost $87 billion dollars to fraudulent UI claims. Now, by comparison, unemployment insurance benefits paid out in 2019 only $27.3 billion in total, according to the Department of Labor. Who is responsible for this?
