How to fold a rather easy origami elephant that has an eye and a tubular trunk and can be made to stand or be flattened to fly as a flicker. This elephant can also be used as a name tag, finger puppet or Thanksgiving place card. Special for my members this week I've published the Elephant Hat variation and a completely new complex Ganesha (the Elephant-Headed Hindu deity), which is part of my intention to recognize, represent and appreciate different cultures. Members also get join the livestreams at the end of the month. The November 2021 Livestream will be November 27th and 28th (see my Community Tab for exact times).
The Elephant that I taught in this video is part of a series of origami animals that I've recently been designing from the Road Base, a name I recently coined to describe folding two opposite sides of the square in a little as the first step. The 10-Second Giraffe ( https://youtu.be/NOd2BwcbYbE ) is also from the Road Base.
The idea to design a Ganesha was part of a request by my Zoom student Shriram during his tutoring session with me and during the session I designed on the spot a relatively simple Ganesha, which was basically an elephant standing on its hind legs. I showed it to Origami India organizer, Kalyani, who opined that it didn't look very much like Ganesha, and I took that as a challenge to try to design a more realistic Ganesha. It took me many tries before I was satisfied with the model enough to make a tutorial.
