China has gained significant influence within the United Nations, and Chinese law dictates that they remain loyal to Beijing in their service. To learn more about this we speak with Alex Newmann, an award-winning international journalist, educator, author, and consultant. Newmann serves as the CEO of Liberty Sentinel Media and writes for diverse publications in the United States and abroad. And a report from a coalition of human rights groups, led by Amnesty International Canada, says that China is increasingly using “threats, bullying and harassment” to intimidate activists around democracy, civil rights, and those who speak out against human rights abuses of Uyghurs, Tibetans, and Falun Gong practitioners. The report notes that Canada’s light approach to China may be emboldening Chinese state actors to carry out their bullying and intimidation. These stories and more in this episode of Crossroads.
