TRUMP, BIDEN IN SEPARATE TOWN HALL EVENTS

President Trump and Joe Biden fielded questions from voters and a moderator, in two separate town halls Thursday night. The president's event, hosted by NBC News' Savannah Guthrie, took place in Miami, Florida and lasted 1 hour. Guthrie opened the night seeking answers from the president about being tested for the virus. GUTHRIE: "Did you test the day of the debate?" TRUMP: "I don't know. I don't even remember. I test all the time. But I can tell you this -- after the debate, like I guess a day or so, I think was Thursday evening, maybe even late Thursday evening, I tested positive. That's when I first found out about it." Moving on to the topic of the next stimulus bill, Guthrie asked what was causing the delay. TRUMP: "I'm ready to sign a big, beautiful stimulus. You saw the other day, I say go big or go home, right? That's how I want it to be big. I want it to be bold. I want the money go to directly to the people." GUTHRIE: "Are Senate Republicans with you, they're going to go big, a big bold number?" TRUMP: "They'll go." At times, tensions rose between the moderator and the president - the moderator often cutting in before the president had finished speaking. With a focus on the election, Guthrie asked if President Trump would allow a peaceful transfer of power should Biden be elected. TRUMP: "And the answer is, yes, I will. But I want it to be an honest election. And so does everybody else. When I see thousands of ballots dumped in a garbage can and they happen to have my name on it, I'm not happy about that." The president was pressed heavily by Guthrie about a potential reversal of Roe v. Wade. He revealed that he has never spoken to Judge Amy Coney Barrett or any of the sitting Supreme Court Justices about the Roe v. Wade case. He said he hasn't done that because he thinks it would be "inappropriate". When asked to give his personal view on the matter - he declined, saying he doesn't want to do anything to influence Barrett. He said he wants her "to go by the law." Meanwhile, Biden, over in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, told a town hall audience that he would only repeal the tax cuts for those making over $400-thousand per year. He was clarifying an earlier statement he'd made about repealing "the Trump tax cuts". Biden referred to a flashcard when he defended his tax plans, arguing it would improve the standard of living for average Americans. ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos questioned raising taxes at a time of an economic downturn. Both presidential candidates plan to make changes to the tax code, but largely in opposite directions. While the president plans further tax reductions, Biden plans to raise taxes on the rich and businesses. When pressed for an answer on packing the Supreme Court, Biden said he'll have a clear position on it by election day - that's depending on how Barrett's confirmation is handled.
