Two Disabled Veterans Join Sarah Sanders at White House Podium

Smira Bouaou
Retired Marine Corps Sgt. John Peck and Staff Sgt. Liam Dwyer wheeled their way into the not-very-accessible White House press briefing room on March 5 to be introduced by Press Secretary Sarah Sanders. Sanders said both veterans served in Iraq and Afghanistan and President Donald Trump met both of them recently at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Peck suffered a traumatic brain injury in Iraq, and after two years of therapy, he re-enlisted and deployed to Afghanistan. While there, he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) and lost both arms and legs. In 2016, he received a double arm transplant. Dwyer had a close call during a roadside bomb explosion in Iraq. He later went to Afghanistan and lost his left leg when he stepped on an IED. He also suffered severe injuries to his right arm, leg, and torso. Sanders went on to list several initiatives for veterans that the Trump administration has enacted over the last year.
