UAE pardons jailed UK academic, releases 'confession' video

A British academic who was jailed for life in the United Arab Emirates on charges of spying has been pardoned by the president and released. Matthew Hedges, a 31-year-old doctoral student from Durham University, was pardoned by President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Nov. 25 as part of mass clemency for more than 700 prisoners to mark the country’s National Day.
