2018-03-12 10:58
This is the moment panicked residents armed themselves with sticks to try and scare off - a LEOPARD. The startled big cat be seen growing increasingly irritated and darting up a flight of stairs in a residential building. Alarmed residents attempt to whack it with long wooden poles. It is believed the leopard attacked and injured three residents in the compound, before it was eventually sedated after four attempts to shoot it with tranquilizer guns. The leopard was discovered by a construction worker as he arrived to work this morning (Fri) on the compound in Palher Nagar in west-central India. It is thought that the leopard had snuck onto the residential site during the night and had hidden a building that was under construction. The worker reported his sighting to the ERODROM police, who in turn informed the municipal corportation and the Forest Department. It took the two teams an hour and a half to finally sedate the irate leopard, during which time the animal can be seen growing more agitated as it tries to escape the frenzied residents. Some residents shut themselves into their homes when the leopard emerged, whilst other climbed trees or onto their roofs to catch a glimpse of the big cat. The Forest Department's Divisional Forest Officer R.K. Saxena was one of the three people injured by the leopard during the incident, After the leopard was finally knocked unconscious following four shots from tranquiliser guns, the Forest Department waited half an hour to approach the animal. They loaded the leopard into a cage and took it to a zoo. An investigation is underway as to how the leopard got into the gated residential compound. Video credit: SWNS
