13 US Delegates Visiting Taiwan; Biden not Seeking Fundamental Transformation of China | Serene Lee

A U.S. Navy aircraft with 13 delegates departed from the Philippines to Taiwan on Nov 9, including four US senators and two representatives. Taiwanese media reported Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), who introduced the Taiwan Deferrance Act, was on board. On the other hand, the Iron Dome defense system was recently deployed in Guam for testing when the tensions in the Taiwan Strait rose sharply. Reuters reported that a virtual meeting between Joe Biden and Xi Jinping would be held as soon as Monday. Biden might push Xi to commit to climate issues to save his low approval ratings in the US. In a recent interview, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan thinks that one of the errors of past policies toward China was the notion of bringing about a fundamental transformation of the Chinese system, and he said “that is not the object of the Biden administration. ” President Biden announced on Nov 9 that the US extended a Trump-era ban on securities investments in companies linked to the CCP military.
