Colorado School District to Votes to Have 3-Day Weekend

A school district in Colorado is adopting a four-day work week. Starting in August, metro Denver school district 27J will have classes from Tuesday to Friday. The district’s superintendent says the change will help attract and retain teachers. He estimates it could also save $1 million a year in transportation, utilities, and substitute teacher costs. To compensate for the extra weekend day, each school day is longer. Elementary and full-day kindergarten will go from 7:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The middle and high school will go from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To help parents who need childcare on Monday, they are offering care from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for $30. 27J isn’t the first district to do this. More than half of Colorado’s school districts already operate on a four-day week.
