In the same breath as talking about the terrorist threats of ISIS and Al Qaeda, Joe Biden emphasized “the most lethal terrorist threat to the homeland” allegedly posed by white supremacists, in his first address to Congress. Yet, there was no mention of the arson, vandalism and looting that occurred following the death of George Floyd, with damages estimated in the billions of dollars; this is to say nothing of the loss of life that occurred. Senator Tim Scott rebutted the notion of an America plagued by systemic racism: "Hear me clearly: America is not a racist country. It's backwards to fight discrimination with different discrimination. And it's wrong to try to use our painful past to dishonestly shut down debates in the present." In a twisted irony, he was heavily attacked with racial slurs on social media, including by fellow politicians.
