Just One Energy Drink Can Increase Risk Of Heart Attacks Or Strokes, According To Study

Kuting Feng
Drinking just one energy drink may increase the risk of a heart attack, according to a new study. Researchers at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston studied 44 medical students. Each healthy, non-smoking student drank one 24-ounce energy drink. After one and a half hours, the researchers checked their artery flow and dilation. Vessel dilation fell from 5.1% to 2.8% diameter, “suggesting acute impairment” in function. This kind of dysfunction is known to increase risk of cardiac events, such as heart attacks.
