New York City’s neighborhood policing policy
will now be implemented in subway stations
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Thursday that
NYPD will be implementing its intimate community
policing tactic in train cars and subways stations.
He says the new tactic will be used as a way to keep
New Yorkers safe while traveling around the city.
The neighborhood policing tactic is already prevalent
on the street level across the city.
(Bill de Blasio, Mayor, New York City)
“Until now, neighborhood policing was an idea that was overground; now we are going to deepen the concept, that’s today’s pun. We are going to deepen the concept and bring it underground.”
(Edward Delatorre, City Police Regional Sheriff, New York City)
“The NCO’s, however, are going to have very flexible tours. They are going to be the sector leaders so to speak. They’re going to be the ones who coordinate resources, the sectors will supply support to them and address needs as they come up.”
