Ross River Dam Gates 'Likely to Open' as Dam Nears 250 Percent Capacity
Queensland Police issued a warning to residents of Townsville and surrounding areas on Sunday, February 3, that the Ross River Dam spillway gates could be fully opened later that evening.
Approximately 2,000 cubic meters of water per second would be released should the gates be opened. The dam was 240 percent its capacity by 6.15 pm on Sunday. Townsville and its surrounding areas experienced severe flooding in recent days following record-breaking rainfall.
