Woodturning: The Locust with a Crown!

Adamsen Woodcraft
Thank you to all my subscribers and viewers! It has been a few weeks since my last upload, largely due to shop upgrades and general craziness. I hope everyone is well! This is my 23rd filmed project, and it was new territory for me in several ways. I have never turned black locust before, and it is tough stuff! Yes, it turned my lathe into a bucking bronco until I could tame it with my sharp bowl gouge. And yes, undoubtedly, there will be some who wish I had not neutered that gorgeous piece of bloodwood by carving and piercing it with the dremel. But I have wanted to learn how to carve and pierce turnings for a while, and this seemed like a suitable candidate. I hope you enjoyed the process. I sure had a bunch of fun in addition to all the fretting and self-doubt as to whether it would even work out without destroying either the lathe or the piece or me... The eagle-eyed might have noticed a clamp attached to the banjo. Well, half-way through the project, I realize the screw bolt that tightens the tool rest in the banjo quit on me and lost its threads. I eventually realized I could switch it out with the tail stock bolt and it works okay now. Now, I'm looking forward more than ever to a lathe upgrade... some day... maybe... Cheers to all!
