'Punxsutawney Phil' predicts winter blahs will soon end

Millions of Americans laboring under the winter doldrums can brighten up this weekend as the weather forecast was looking good -- at least for those who rely on the annual prediction of groundhog 'Punxsutawney Phil' in Pennsylvania. The annual Groundhog Day event at Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney has 'Punxsutawney Phil' declaring whether winter will last six more weeks or if spring will come early based on whether or not he sees his own shadow after appearing from his winter 'den'. "Stop the music. Here is my forecast. Faithful followers, there is no shadow of me. A beautiful spring it shall be!," the groundhog was quoted as saying at the popular event, which draws thousands to a tourist spot at the top of a wooded hill each year. The Groundhog Day event was made even more popular by the 1993 film comedy "Groundhog Day" which starred Bill Murray. One official told the gathered crowd that he thought this was the largest Groundhog Day even he had ever personally witnessed. "If I were you, I'd go out and buy some swimsuits," he told the crowd after Phil's prediction was read.
