Betsy DeVos on Giving States More Power in Education

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said students need to learn civics and government. She said students that don’t learn the subjects properly aren’t able to discuss and debate well. “Students aren’t getting the kind of foundation in civics and government that I recall getting,” she said. Without that background, they cannot know and understand competing ideas, she added. That leaves them unable to debate them. DeVos also touted the Education Department’s plan to give power back to states.
