The U.S. Department of Justice announced on May 11 that Dr. Xiao-Jiang Li, a Chinese professor, was sentenced for concealing his participation in the CCP “Thousand Talents Program” and for not reporting this foreign income in his federal income tax returns over several years. Another participant of the “Thousand Talents Program,” Simon Ang, a Chinese professor specializing in electrical engineering at the University of Arkansas, was arrested for wire fraud. Since 2019, the U.S. National Institute of Health has been investigating 55 institutions across the United States, and a number of Chinese scholars have been charged with participating in the "Thousand Talents Program," leaking U.S. classified information and scientific research results.
