One year ago, the marjory stoneman douglas high school community was forever changed in a span of five-and-a-half minutes - when a former student shot and killed 17 students and staff members. A commission found some of the people who *were* there failed to confront the shooter. The school resource officer resigned - and governor ron desantis suspended the broward county sheriff. Gov. Ron desantis/ -r- florida: "More important - they want the problems fixed going forward. Going forward, the students have made sure their story is one of survival and change. "...The story never ends. Let's celebrate, remember, a year in the life of friends" ...A year in the life of survivors performing at the tony awards, receiving honors and gracing magazine covers. But that's because of how they've turned pain into action. "Fight for your lives before it's someone else's job." Students marched on washington - and toured the country with gun violence prevention rallies. White House issued a statement, reaffirming school safety as a top priority for Trump Administration. It lists some of the recommendations made by the Federal Commission on School Safety report released at the end of last year.
