Rainbow Falls 🌈 Deployable Origami Dragon Tail πŸ‰ Kite Tail πŸͺ

JeremyShaferOrigami
[Simple] How to fold a kinetic modular sculpture of a tail that expands when you let go. No tape, no glue! This deployable model holds together just with pure origami locks. Simply flick it downward and gravity will expand the tail! I named the model Rainbow Falls, but it can also be called dragon tail, kite tail, unicorn tail or whatever other name you come up with like.... Pin the Tail on the Donkey? This model is surprisingly easy to fold, so I would not be too surprised if it's been designed before, but I certainly haven't seen it. If I am not the first to discover it, and you have seen a similar model please let me know where in the comments below so I can give proper credit of prior discovery. My inspiration for designing this model came from folding David Brill's Origami Unstabile whose diagrams are published here: https://vallebird.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/unstabile.pdf After folding that model, I experimented with different modular attachments that can slide similar to his and came up with this one, and that's how this model was born! The amount of space that you leave between the two flaps of the kite base helps determine how smooth the modules will slide apart. I haven't tried it, but I imagine that putting some sort of extra weight into the bottom module would help make it easier to slide out when you let go. Special for my members I figured out and made a tutorial for how to attach four Rainbow Falls together to form an expanding 4-pointed star.
