FERGUSON says: "He's destroyed my family. You know, my daughter Mandy was the glue that held my family in place, you know? She was, she was my everything." THIS MORNING, DAN FERGUSON RECEIVED A CALL FROM EL PASO POLICE TELLING HIM THE MAN WHO HIT HIS 28 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER MANDY, A BUBBLY SIXTH GRADE TEACHER, TURNED HIMSELF IN TWO DAYS AFTER FLEEING THE SCENE. FERGUSON says: "I saw where my daughter was hit and where her body was, 50 feet from the point of contact." FERGUSON says: "You know he never even attempted to stop to render aid." THERE WAS SOME RELIEF, BUT ALSO FRUSTRATION. FERGUSON says: "This man, because of his careless action, has destroyed a complete family." THE FAMILY SAYS THEY LEARNED JOEL VELASQUEZ HAS A CRIMINAL PAST. HE WAS CURRENTLY OUT ON BOND WHEN THE CRASH HAPPENED AND WAS IN THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY. FERGUSON says: "It just doesn't add up. It just doesn't seem to be fair." THEY ARE TRYING TO FIND PEACE IN THE MEMORIES AND THE JOY THEIR DAUGHTER BROUGHT TO SO MANY PEOPLE. FERGUSON says: "She was my world, you know? She was my wife's best friend but she was always my baby girl." BUT THEY ALSO WANT ACCOUNTABILITY AND JUSTICE FOR MANDY. FERGUSON says: "Everything was just perfect in her life, you know? And to have it just so tragically and senseless... senselessly destroyed, you know? This is something that no parent should go through."
