On Wednesday, two court decisions regarding absentee ballots were made in two different states. That's a boost for Republican groups seeking to enforce stricter rules on mail-in voting. The judge issued an injunction which bars voters from being able to "fix" an absentee ballot. That means changing a ballot that has already been sent in but lacked a third-party signature. attesting that the voter, and not somebody else, signed the ballot. The requests were mailed to voters and were pre-filled with their personal information. Iowa's Secretary of State instructed county elections commissioners in July that all absentee ballot request forms they mailed to voters must be blank. Democrats tried to argue the directive was unconstitutional. The courts rejected the challenge.
