Five Rescued from Burning Boat off Massachusetts Coast

2018-08-12 16:19
A good Samaritan sailor rescued five people trapped on a burning boat in Boston Harbor. The Point Allerton Coast Guard station got a call about a burning boat around 7 p.m. on Aug. 10. The Coast Guard and both Boston and Massport fire departments sent vessels to the scene. The boat, a 32-foot pleasure craft, was floating in Hull Gut, a natural channel in Boston Harbor. The brave sailor had pulled up alongside the burning ship and helped all five passengers cross to safety. By the time the Coast Guard and fire boats arrived, there was nothing left to do but extinguish the fire and take the rescued boaters to shore. “Five people on board, all of them safely pulled off the vessel by that good Samaritan. Awesome job by that person (and) very brave of them to come alongside like that with an active fire,” Petty Officer Robert Letts told WHDH. “Very relieved they were safely off the boat (and) very happy they were able to safely get off and everything was OK.”
