Vandals Throw Bricks at Electoral Office of Minister Who Triggered Leadership Crisis
Ahead of his second failed challenge to become prime minister, bricks were thrown through the window of Peter Dutton’s electoral office in Strathpine, Queensland, in the early hours of August 24.
Queensland Police said shortly before 2 am, vandals smashed four windows and two glass doors with brick pavers and also damaged the walls. ABC reported the discover of graffiti about 200 metres away from the scene that read “Deport Dutton.”
Dutton, a controversial figure in Australian politics for his role in enforcing the country’s offshore detention policies, had lost his bid to become prime minister on Tuesday. On Friday, he failed to accrue enough votes from his party after triggering two leadership spills.
