Florida's New Laws Set Civics Literacy, Fights Communism; VP Harris to Visit Border for First Time

Deep Dive
Deep Dive
It's a big day in the nation's Capital. On the table? Infrastructure and policing legislation. They're two of President Biden's major bipartisan priorities —and the next 24 hours could be crucial. Senators on both sides of the aisle say they've reached an agreement on the plan. Late Wednesday, the White House and 10 senators struck a deal. Biden told reporters Thursday: "We have a deal." As for gun control, Biden is cracking down on gun violence. He had a message for those committing the crimes: “My message to you is this: We’ll find you, and we’ll seek your license to sell guns. We’ll make sure can't sell death and mayhem on our streets." Vice President Kamala Harris is heading to the U.S.-Mexico border on Friday. It will be her first visit to the border after being tasked with dealing with the migrant crisis. This comes amid mounting pressure for Harris to visit the U.S.-Mexico border. Last Thursday, More than 50 House republicans urged President Biden to replace Harris on her border assignment. They cited the fact that she hadn't visited the border. And Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin denies that the military teaches Critical Race Theory in a hearing before congress. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley then defended teaching it in the military. This comes as students in Florida will learn the evils of communism in their civics course, and have to complete a civics test to graduate. The state is strengthening its civic education, with new requirements for an integrated curriculum. Tune into Deep Dive as we explore these topics and more.
