Strange old multicolor pen restoration - Restoring project

Odd Tinkering
Odd Tinkering
I bought a lot of 4 old items a while back the lot had this multicolor refill pen, the razor (brand is razo) and two completely worthless rusty items. I knew this pen would make a good video and also the razor might make a video. After searching Ebay I saw one of those razors being sold for 100 USD and I think the pen could be worth at least 60-70 USD and I paid around 16.5 USD euro for the lot so it was a good deal if I want to sell those. I'm actually not sure if this should be called pen or pencil in English but pen is shorte, so... The pen is probably made of nickel silver (aka german silver or alpacca) and it could be silver plated but that I don’t know for sure. The metals are the same color. The pen has 4 tips that take 1.18mm refills but they can to be only around an inch long. It’s supposed to be used for multiple colors (black, blue, red and green in this case). The mechanism inside is quite fascinating, but it’s still relatively simple. The outer shell of the pen locks the tip into outside-position and a spring pulls it back when it’s released. After some searching, I found that both nickel silver and real silver can be cleaned from oxidation bu putting them is a solution of warm water, baking soda and salt with some aluminum foil. All the tutorials showed this worked in minutes but to me it took at least 2 hours and still it took some rubbing with toothbrush to get the oxidation off. I didn’t try any chemical methods on the mechanism because it had multiple metals which could lead e.g. to corrosion of the springs. I used WD-40 type multispray and eventually also brass brush to remove all the dirt and oxidation. After cleaning I polished the parts with metal polish compound and a Dremel with wool wheel and cleaned them with acetone to get all the wax from the polish compound off. I wanted to also do something to the pen case I got with the lot. It was in decent condition, so I only re-oiled it with lanolin, which (in this case) was from a wool care product. This will make the leather softer and last a lot longer. If the leather dries up it will start cracking. Thanks for watching. This video was probably more goofy than the typical ASMR but I'll try to more both in the future as you seem to like both jokes and the ASMR aspect.
